Title: Knowledge in a Post-truth world
Year: 2025
Medium: 3-channel video (Tryptich) KNOWLEDGE
We live in times where knowledge is still constructed out of a mix of religious beliefs, scientific fact, and superstition. We have a big appetite for conspiracy theories about everything; obviously as a result of gaps in factual information, we end up grappling with the world through concocting, believable and detailed narratives.
The greater the information we are consuming in today’s age, the less we know. In a sense, we think we know, but there is an unreliability, and lack of nuance to information.
Post-truth is generally defined as denoting or relating to circumstances whereby objective facts are less influential in shaping the opinion of the public than appeals to personal belief and emotion.
The Post-truth era implies bordering a blurry line between lies and truths, dishonesty and honesty, nonfiction and fiction. Deceiving other people commenced as a game, then a challenge, and ultimately a habit. The key ingredient in the Post-truth culture is the rise of social media that has substantially replaced authentic Electronic and print media.
When observing the political, the post-truth era fueled campaigns based on arguments that are emotive, instead of fact checks. Hence Post-truth is seen as damage to the whole democratic framework and fabric of society at large, accompanied with corruption of intellectual integrity.
